Former Indian Cricket Team Captain Bishan Singh Bedi passed away on October 23. He had undergone a knee Operation due to which Infection spread in the body and he could not recover from it. He breathed his last at his residence in Delhi. Bishan Singh Bedi was born in Amritsar in 1946. He used to play street Cricket near his residence in Putlighar. When he came to Gandhi Ground in Amritsar, he started practicing in this Ground only. Then he received Education in Hindu College, Amritsar. When he became a great Cricketer, he used to share his experience with young players at Gandhi Ground in Amritsar.
Bishan Singh Bedi Career in Indian Team
Bishan Singh Bedi made his debut match for the Indian team on 31 December 1966 against West Indies at Eden Garden, Kolkata. He led India to its first victory in ODI cricket against Africa in the 1975 World Cup. When he used to bowl, The Batsmen used to dodge arm balls and sudden fast balls. Bedi continued playing for the Indian team for almost 12 years. He was also called Bishan Paaji. Bishan Singh Bedi has played 67 Test Matches for the Indian team. He took 266 Wickets and took 5 Wickets 14 times and once he also achieved the feat of taking 10 Wickets and he took 7 Wickets in 10 ODI Matches.
Controversy
Bedi was the first Captain in the World who opposed the Umpire’s decision. In November 1978, when India needed 30 runs from 14 balls in the Match being played between India vs Pakistan, Pakistan Bowler bowled four bouncers and the Umpire did not give white ball even once. He was angry with this. They started protesting and called back their Batsmen.
