Jim Corbett (James Edward Corbett) | Biography, Hunting & Books

Jim Corbett’s full name was Edward James Corbett. Jim Corbett was born on 25 July 1875 in Kumaon, Nainital district of Uttarakhand state, India. These were 8 sisters and brothers, their childhood was spent in Nainital and they also received their education here. He was more interested in forests and wild animals. He spent most of his life with his sister. However, due to poor financial conditions, he had to leave his job and join the Railways and later joined the army. He became an army captain and was then sent to hunt man-eating animals. 

Jim Corbett National Park in the Indian state of Uttarakhand was named after him because he killed many man-eating tigers and leopards. Jim Corbett was both a hunter and author. He left his residence at Kaladhungi near Nainital, which is his present residence. He wrote many books. He wrote many books. When India became independent, Jim Corbett went to Kenya with his sister. Jim Corbett died in Nyeri, Kenya in 1955.

Hunts by Jim Corbett

Jim Corbett had killed many man-eating tigers and leopards. When a tiger or leopard became a man-eater, the British government kept money for hunting man-eating animals, but Jim Corbett did not like to take any money for hunting man-eating animals. He used to hunt man-eating tigers and leopards only to save people’s lives. That’s why people in India still respect him a lot.

Jim Corbett became famous when he hunted a man-eating tigress in Champawat in 1909. Champawat is a district on the border of India and Nepal where a man-eating tigress had created terror, this man-eating tigress had hunted about 450 people. This man-eating tigress had earlier hunted many people in Nepal, then the Nepal Army chased it away, and this man-eating tigress came to Champawat in India. Jim Corbett was called to hunt this man-eating tigress as many hunters had failed to hunt it. Jim Corbett chased this man-eating tigress in the jungles for several days. Ultimately, Jim Corbett freed people from the terror of this man-eating tigress by hunting it.

Similarly, in 1926, Jim Corbett hunted a man-eating leopard in the Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand state of India, which had hunted many people from 1918 to 1926. Jim Corbett tried several times to hunt this man-eating leopard but he failed. Wherever this man-eating leopard used to hunt people, Jim Corbett used to go there and search for this man-eating leopard. Ultimately, Jim Corbett freed people from the terror of this man-eating leopard by hunting it. The size of this man-eating leopard was not like that of a common leopard, this leopard was very big and dangerous. Similarly, Jim Corbett had hunted many man-eating tigers and leopards in his lifetime.
